Shell gas station employee shot during attempted robbery in Howard County
Howard County Police are investigating a nonfatal shooting that injured a gas station employee in Columbia on Friday evening.
According to police, the shooting took place at a Shell located on the 7200 block of Cradlerock Way at 7:43 p.m.
The employee injured was an adult male. He was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious injuries.
Investigators believe the shooting was carried out by a single subject who was attempting to rob the store before fleeing.
Police say no others were injured during the crime.
As of Saturday morning, the victim was listed in critical but stable condition.
Local reaction
Locals purchasing gas were shocked to hear about the shooting at a gas station they frequent.
"Concerning, upsetting…[I] want to live in a safe place and obviously want everyone to feel safe where they work or where they go to get gas," said Lulu Fulda, a Maryland resident.
"[It's] kind of scary in my opinion because, literally, I'm living like two minutes away," said Shah Davoud. "This is my routine gas station that I get all of my stuff from."
Both Fulda and Davoud hope investigators quickly find the suspect. Until then, they'll be cautious around the area, but they say this incident won't stop them from coming back here.
"I think I would probably think twice, maybe not come after dark," Fulda said.
"I still probably [will] give them my business," Davoud added. "I don't want to hold it against them."
$1,000 reward offered for suspect information
Police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, who was seen on surveillance footage prior to the shooting.
A woman wearing a black dress and slides was identified on Saturday.
Howard County Police posted images of the woman to their social media.
Anyone with information regarding the woman's whereabouts is asked to contact police at 911, 410-313-STOP, or HCPDcrimetips@howardcountymd.gov.
