Massachusetts and New Hampshire police search for Nathan Saben after carjacking with rifle

ALTON, NH - Police are searching for an armed suspect who they say is responsible for carjackings and attempted carjackings in several communities in the last 24 hours.

The crime spree passed through the small town of Alton, New Hampshire Wednesday morning where an elderly man was carjacked at gunpoint from his black Subaru Outback. He was injured when an open door hit him as the suspects sped off.

"I'd be petrified if someone showed me a gun," said Denyce DeRoche of Alton, New Hampshire. "People pass through the town and you don't know what's going on in their minds."

One of the suspects is 35-year-old Nathan Saben of Haverhill, Massachusetts. Police say he's armed with a rifle and likely travelling with his girlfriend. The two were first spotted in Haverhill Tuesday night after an unrelated narcotics investigation and followed by police to the New Hampshire border when reports of the carjackings started coming in.

"This whole pattern is extremely dangerous. The fact they're using a weapon, threatening people to try to rob them and use their vehicle to box them in," said Salem, New Hampshire police Captain Jason Smith.

In Salem, NH Tuesday night they allegedly boxed in a woman and stole her Toyota Camry before heading north. The victim escaped unharmed.

Before that police say the two attempted to carjack two other individuals in Salem, but the victims were able to get away.

Police say they should be considered armed and dangerous and have this warning for the public. "Be aware of your surroundings. If you see them don't try to intercede, create distance and call 911 immediately and be a good witness," said Captain Smith.
