Video shows man dumping bags of trash on East Boston sidewalk
A man was caught on camera pulling up in a van and dumping bags of garbage in an East Boston neighborhood. Neighbors say it happened at numerous locations, and one person says they confronted the man. After an investigation from the Boston Department of Public Works, they levied multiple fines.
"This one you can tell it was all construction material, and it was really heavy," said a neighbor who asked to remain anonymous. "The guy had a hard time taking it in and out."
The neighbor says his landlord looked out front and saw the van illegally parked at the corner of Sumner Street and Orleans Street. She went out there to tell the man that he could not dump the trash there.
"She asked him 'Why are you doing this?' He told her 'My boss told me to,"' the neighbor said, adding that his landlord threatened to call the police if he didn't stop. "The guy decided to put it all back in his truck and to leave."
Another neighbor told us it happened at Murray Court and on Webster Street. That neighbor says trash crews recognized that it wasn't ordinary trash for that area and didn't pick it up. She had to call 311 to get someone to remove it.
$1000 fines issued
A spokesperson for Boston Public Works says they did conduct an investigation that led to heavy fines.
"The Public Works Code Enforcement Division was alerted by East Boston residents of illegally stored trash being left on Orleans Street and Murray Court. After an investigation was conducted, a $1,000 fine was issued for each location. We thank the residents of East Boston for reporting this inappropriate and illegal activity, and we encourage all residents to do the same," a DPW spokesperson says.
