2 women killed, infant critical after being hit by vehicle in Winnetka, sheriffs say

Two women are dead and an infant is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle Friday evening in Winnetka, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

Around 6 p.m., the vehicle was heading south on Chuch Road when it hit the victims, with the infant in the stroller, at the intersection of Meadow Road, outside the Indian Hill Club golf course. Staff members from Indian Hill Club said employees heard the crash and rushed over to help, but it was too late.

The infant was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

One of the women died at the scene. The other was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The victims has been identified as 37-year-old Sediqeh Samadi and 58-year-old Raziyeh Sigar by the Medical Examiner's Office.

The driver and passenger in the vehicle were also taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Families walk through the area where the crash happened all the time. On Saturday, they were not just passing through. They were stopping to add flowers to a roadside memorial.

"This is a real family-focused neighborhood. There are a lot of young kids running around all the time," Mia Sachs said.

A neighborhood walk is routine for Sachs, who lives down the block, but on Saturday she held her dog in one hand and sorrow in the other.

"We brought some flowers by where there was a terrible accident last night here," she said.

Sachs and several of neighbors added to a growing memorial on Saturday along Church Road.

"I think everyone's in shock and incredibly sad. It's a tragedy for this family, and for the community, and even for the people who were driving the car. I think it's a tragedy all around," Sachs said. "Our community wants to help in any way that we can. There's an outpouring of, 'What can we do?' And really, at this point, we've only been told they just need prayers. So, that's what everyone is doing."

The sheriff's office said there is no indication of foul play, but the investigation is ongoing.
