Armed robberies prompt police alert on Chicago's Northwest Side

Police are warning residents after two armed robberies on Chicago's Northwest Side.

According to Chicago police, the two robberies were reported during the afternoon on Dec. 28 in the following locations, both in the Jefferson Park (16th) District: 

  • 8100 block of West Addison Street, Dunning.
  • 3200 block of North Newland Avenue, Schorsch Village.

Chicago police said in both incidents, the suspect followed women, forced them into a garage or vestibule, and ripped away their personal property.

In the Addison Street incident, the robber took a woman's cell phone, Chicago Transit Authority Ventra card, and cash.  In the Newland Avenue incident, the robber took a woman's purse and shopping bags, and her purse had her cellphone and all her debit and credit cards, police said.

The suspect was reported to be a man in his 30s or 40s, wearing a balacava-style mask and dark clothing.

Police said a vehicle, a blue 2000 Ford Taurus, has been recovered. 

No arrests have been made.
