Minneapolis police investigating 3 shootings that happened in 20-minute span

Minneapolis police are investigating three shootings that happened in a span of just 20 minutes Thursday night.

The first shooting happened at approximately 6:29 p.m. inside a residence on the 400 block of Taylor Street Northeast. Police say it involved "an altercation" between two men that "escalated to gunfire." The victim suffered "potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds," police say, and they're still searching for the shooter.

The second shooting happened around 6:36 p.m., 2.5 miles away on the 2000 block of West River Road North. Police say a man was "walking outside when gunfire occurred." Three arrests were made in this case just before 3 a.m. Friday in a traffic stop about a mile northwest. The suspects — ages 18, 21 and 22 — face possible weapons charges, police say. The victim's injuries are not life-threatening.

The third reported shooting occurred at 6:46 p.m., less than 5 miles southeast on the 800 block of Franklin Avenue East. Police say a woman suffered "at least one" non-life threatening gunshot wound while outside. A witness named Zelda told WCCO at least 10 rounds were fired.

"I was getting food and I seen a car stopped here, and then I heard a bunch of gunshots and they just sat there shooting, and then they pulled away really fast," Zelda said.

Investigators say the shootings do not appear to be related.

Up until Thursday, the reported only 20 gunshot victims this year — 12 within the last 28 days — which is down from last year.
