Wintry storm continues to slap Minnesota with snow, rain on Thursday

Winter weather alerts remain in place in Minnesota Thursday as a strong storm slings ice and snow across the state.

Expect snow to the north, ice in the Twin Cities and rain to the south to continue through the morning hours. A winter weather advisory is in place for much of the state, including the metro. WCCO has also issued a NEXT Weather Alert.

Conditions will gradually improve by evening as precipitation changes to rain in the south and exits. Slushy snow will linger to the north, with slick spots possible. The greatest snow totals — between 3 and 5 inches — will occur north of the Brainerd Lakes area.

The spring storm caused some Minnesota schools to close, delay their starts or move to virtual learning on Thursday.

Another system arriving Friday evening and lasting into Saturday will bring accumulating snow, mainly west and northwest of the metro. The Twin Cities should see rain.

Easter Sunday will be colder, with everything clearing out of the area. Expect some sun and dry conditions.

Early next week, a quiet pattern returns, with temperatures moderating.
