Seats from the iconic Three Rivers Stadium go up for sale this week

Some special seats from the home of the Washington Wild Things are for sale.

If they could talk, they would have many stories to tell.

"John Mellencamp has performed here – Bob Dylan has been here twice," Chris Blaine, the CEO of Sports Facility, LLC, the parent company of the Wild Things, said.

Taylor Swift has also sung at EQT Park in North Franklin Township, along with an appearance from Sarah Palin and John McCain, Blaine said.

It's only the second chapter for the first-level seats. The first one comes from Three Rivers Stadium – the former home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.

"[The company that built EQT Park] had foresight, and they went and bought all of them before Three Rivers Stadium was demolished," Blaine said.

Those seats had been in Three Rivers Stadium since 1994. They were originally put in preparation for the 1994 MLB All-Star Game, the Wild Things said.

When Three Rivers Stadium was imploded, the seats were stored, and by the time 2002 rolled around, they were at then-Falconi Field in time for the Wild Things to begin play. But sometimes, cool things cannot last forever.

"They can't hold up a whole lot longer, and you can't find parts anymore to fix them," Blaine said. "We've got to replace them because they're breaking – and we need the seats."

So now, a little over a month before the season? They're being sold and replaced.

Seat bottoms and backs will be sold as individuals for $25 per bottom and $25 per back, the Wild Things said.

The full seat will be available for $75. Season ticketholders who have expressed interest in reserving their seats will be the only ones allowed to have specific seats.

"I think people who are Pirate fans and Steeler fans that went to Three Rivers Stadium – they want to have a piece of that history as well," Blaine said.

The deadline for purchasing is April 8 at 5 p.m.
