North Texas community mourns after 3 young siblings drown in Bonham

A North Texas community is mourning the loss of three elementary students after they drowned in Bonham, officials confirmed Monday night.

According to the Fannin County Sheriff's Office, multiple state and local agencies responded after receiving a call concerning three brothers who had fallen through ice on a private pond off Rec Road #3, just outside of Bonham.

The sheriff's office said two of the boys, ages 8 and 9, were pulled from the water by first responders and a neighbor. Crews immediately began life-saving measures before the boys were transported to the hospital, where they later died. 

The third child, age 6, did not re-surface in the water. His body was later recovered after an extensive search, officials said. 

Out of respect for the family, the sheriff's said it would not be releasing the names of the siblings. 

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all affected by this tragic accident," the sheriff's office said in a statement. 

Following the incident, Bonham ISD said the siblings attended its schools. 

"We are devastated by this unimaginable loss, and our thoughts are with the family, friends, and all who knew and loved these children," Bonham ISD said in a letter to families obtained by CBS News Texas.

The letter went on to say that counselors would be available to meet with students and staff this week.    

The Fannin County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
