2 dead, firefighter hospitalized after chemical found inside van in Fort Worth, authorities say

Two people are dead and a firefighter was taken to a hospital after an incident on Thursday afternoon in a neighborhood north of Downtown Fort Worth.

Police and firefighters responded just before 11:30 a.m. Thursday to a reported car accident in the 1900 block of Delga Street near the North Freeway frontage road, authorities said.

According to Fort Worth police, the incident started when a black van struck a parked car on Delga Street and came to a stop less than a block later. When police arrived, one person was already dead inside the van. First responders rendered aid to the driver, but he did not survive.

Chemical found in vehicle

Fort Worth police spokesperson Buddy Calzada said police are still trying to determine how the victims died. A "large amount of an unknown chemical" was discovered inside the vehicle, police said later.

One of the firefighters who was affected by exposure to the still‑unknown chemical was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to police.

Identities pending from Medical Examiner

The victims were both adults, and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner will release their identities and cause of death, Calzada said.
